Our Thanksgiving weekend was spent in the warm south and we enjoyed a lovely visit to the zoo. The temperature was 70 degrees so it was a beautiful day to head to the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, South Carolina.
The animals were mostly active so it was very enjoyable to watch them. The new exhibit of the sea lions was interesting. You could watch them from the top or go underneath and watch them swim behind the glass.
I always love watching the penguins with their funny way of walking. We got to watch them as they were fed.
There were lots of beautiful birds. We had fun trying to see if we could locate all of them in their cage.
The flamingos are beautiful to look at but no one wanted to watch them as they did not have a beautiful smell.
The tiger was hiding. Can you spot him?
The river otters were fascinating to watch as they swam and then jumped out of the water and played together.
You can’t miss the bears although they were not near as fascinating as in B. C. Canada where we saw lots of them in the wild.
The Giraffes are one of my favorite zoo animals and they seemed to love people.
The lions looked like animals that I would want to stay far away from.
The monkeys are always fun to watch.
The alligator was sleeping. Would he wake up if someone came near?
The alpacas were wishing for some treats.
Guess how many pounds of poo elephants make in just one day. (300 pounds!)
The kangaroo just would not jump for us.
The Gorillas are one animal that you can’t miss.
We had a tired and hungry bunch of folks until we were done but all in all our visit to the zoo was a great success. I would recommend the Riverbanks zoo to all of you.
