My favorite national park in Utah is Bryce Canyon National Park. The deep canyon is gorgeous with lots of hoodoos. Hoodoos are tall rock spires and this is the only park that we saw them.
We took the shuttle from the visitors center and to see the sites you must get off and walk. Inspiration point was awesome and to get a better look you can hike up the trail to a high point. You can tell that the elevation is high when you hike up the path.
We also walked up to Sunset point. I would love to see it at sunset but we were there in the morning so we just kept traveling.
I am told that Bryce Point is a spot you want to see but it was closed due to construction so we missed it.
After you drive out of the park there is another gem waiting. This one you need to hike in a half mile for. After you go through Bryce Canyon City and come to route 12, turn right. In about 1 mile you will be back into the park again and in another 1-2 miles you will come to a parking lot on the right with a sign that says “Mossy Cave Trail.”
This hike is one you don’t want to miss especially if you have children that like water. You only hike a short distance until you come to a small river. The trail is nice but our children thought it was more fun to hike up through the river.
When you cross the second bridge over the river, you can view a waterfall to your right. Then you come to a T. Go right and you can hike closer to the falls. You can cross the river above the falls and then see if you can slide down the steep banks to the falls. If you make it down you can walk behind the falls which made our children’s day.
Hike back to the falls and take the trail the other way and you come to Mossy Cave. It is a large overhang that drips and has lots of moss. We decided that it would not be worth the hike just for the cave although it would be beautiful in the winter with icicles.
I know that this was one of our favorite places since the children begged to stay longer. We finally had to leave ( once they were all sprayed off) but I would love to go back some day and see Bryce Canyon when it has snow on it at sunset.
