One of the highlights of our west trip was the Durango & Silverton train. You ride the old steam trains from Durango CO to Silverton. It takes about 3 hours each way and you have around 2 hours to spend in the town of Silverton.
We woke up that morning with the sound of rain on our RV roof. It was hard to get everyone motivated to be on the road by 7 since we needed to be in town by 7:30. By the time we got to the station the rain had stopped.
As we headed out of town the mist was just rising. As I looked in the grasses by the tracks I saw a lovely buck laying there just watching us go by.
The further we headed up the mountain the cooler it got. The scenery is awesome even if you get a rainy day. Lovely high mountains and many beautiful waterfalls.
We enjoyed having an open air car and we stayed dry even when it rained. This was July but we were glad we had dressed warm and had jackets since it got quite chilly up in the mountains. Make sure you take sunglasses so you don’t get cinders in your eyes if you ride the open air car.
The town of Silverton has lots of lovely shops and restaurants. We enjoyed walking around even if it was lightly raining.
The flowers made my day.
So our day on the Durango & Silverton train was a great success even if it was rainy.
