Keeping your New Year’s Resolutions

January 9, 2016 by Michelle Dueck 2 Comments

I am always intrigued how folks like the new year so they can start over on their New Year’s resolutions. I like New Year’s resolutions too but I usually only make one and then try to keep it. I find if I have too many they just go by the wayside.

So how are you doing with your New Year’s resolutions? I read that 75 percent of people give up after one week. So if you are still keeping yours, you are doing GREAT and much above average!

Why do folks give up so quickly? Maybe they are shooting too high and want to accomplish something that is not realistic.

So how are we going to accomplish our resolutions this year? Let’s look at some of the top resolutions and see how we could make them work.

  1. As you all probably know, the top resolution is losing weight. Now losing weight is simple but it is not easy. But maybe if we broke it down in parts it wouldn’t be so hard. For example, if you want to lose 25 pounds this year, then you need to lose 2 pounds a month or just a little more then 1/2 pound a week. That doesn’t sound too hard, does it?
  2. Get organized. We all want to be more organized and we look at all the nice organizers and pictures on Pinterest. We dream of a perfectly organized house. For me that means getting busy and cleaning out some drawers and closets. If we break that down we can decide how much we need to do a month. I think I only need to do one closet a month. Sounds simple, right?!
  3. Spend less and save more. Everyone wants a better financial situation. But how are we going to get there? If we want to save 2500.00 this year, then you only have to save 48.00 a week.
  4. Stay fit and healthy. Lots of folks run after the latest pill or drink but there are lots of  Simple ways to have better health without spending lots of money (we want to save more, right?). And  exercise is good for most everyone. Make sure you get some good exercise at least 4 days a week.
  5. Enjoy life to the fullest. This may mean different things for different people. It maybe our families, traveling, reading, or doing just the things we want. Remember contentment is not having more things but being content with what we have. I like to remind my children that God has put us here to serve others and maybe that is how we can enjoy life to the fullest.

So how will you keep your resolutions this year? Maybe if we write our weekly goals down in our planners we will get them accomplished. Remember to break them down in small pieces so they are easier to do.

So let’s get busy and see how much we can get done. Maybe I will start next week, how about you?

One of mine is to read the Bible through again this year. But I always make one that I don’t tell. My last years one was to start this blog. It is usually something that I have never done before.
