We had a very busy week with doing lots of beans. They were beautiful long straight beans. We got 45 quart this week and it looks like there are plenty left for next week. I froze all the beans this week and next week I hope to can some. We also spent a lot of time on the road as we traveled back and forth to the city for summer Bible School. We have an hours drive and we needed to be … [Read more...]
Enjoying the Flower Gardens
I love spending my evenings relaxing and enjoying my flowers. That means walking along and pulling a few stray weeds also. The Phlox are starting to bloom and also the pink bee balm. The trumpet vine is full of blooms which the hummingbird loves. Some of the day lilies are still blooming. The purple coneflowers are nicely showing their blooms also and look lovely with … [Read more...]
No Paper Towels = SAVINGS
We have been out of paper towels for a long time. Usually I keep a few on hand but somehow I haven't missed them. We use rags. Lots of rags. Since we have been doing lots of house cleaning lately there are always rags to wash. I am trying to teach my girls to always hang them up and not pile them. Then when they are dry they can be piled in a basket until we are ready to wash them. We have lots of … [Read more...]
Enjoying a Summer Evening Walk
I enjoy the blessing of health and that means that I can go for lovely walks on a lovely summer evening. I like to walk two miles and find it very relaxing to drink in God's beautiful scenery. This evening I took my Ipad along so I could capture a few scenes along the way. The barley was very beautiful and getting ripe. I enjoy taking my walks at sunset since we cannot see the sunset … [Read more...]
Successful Vegetable Gardening
Some of us have had gardens for years. I remember gardening as a child and hating to pull weeds. Now my children dislike the job and I just love gardening and pulling weeds. Why do we pull weeds anyway? We have a neighbor that plants a garden every year but never pulls any weeds. Oh, yes, he has lots of weeds and he just chops them off with a weed eater every spring before he starts over. I … [Read more...]
Vintage Flower Pots
I really enjoy collecting vintage pots and adding flowers to them. This spring I collected quite a few pots and tins as I was going to have lots of beautiful flower pots sitting around. I now have 20 some filled and I have lots of pots left. I guess next year I can fill different ones or maybe I will get some cheap flowers from the neighboring greenhouse when they are ready to close. My … [Read more...]
Monkey Bread for a Snack
Monkey Bread has always been a favorite after school snack. I plan to let my 10 year olds make it for snack some day soon. It is so easy to make. I like to buy my refrigerated biscuits at Aldi's since they are only .49 there. Here is the recipe; 3/4 cup sugar 2 tsp. cinnamon 4 cans (7.5 oz. each) refrigerated biscuits 1/2 cup butter, melted 3/4 cup br. sugar First grease your Bundt cake pan and … [Read more...]
Strawberries are here
We are really enjoying fresh picked strawberries from our garden. We really missed the strawberries last year as we were gone on our trip to Alaska and missed them all. We have enjoyed strawberry shortcake and several pies. So tonight it was subs and strawberry pie. It is one of the simplest pies to make. I just mix strawberries with sugar and a little water. Then I add instant clear jel and stir … [Read more...]
Take a walk in my garden
I just enjoy walking through my flower gardens after a busy day. It is relaxing to pull weeds here and there on a beautiful spring evening. Pulling weeds is a great hobby of mine since "A good gardener must not only like flowers but he must hate weeds". My Lupines are blooming so nicely. I only have one hardy pink one that survived so this spring I seeded some more in hopes of having more … [Read more...]
